Residential Sprinkler Systems & water restrictions

Australian Standards have been reviewed and the new standard, AS1851-2005 has made some distinctions between Commercial and Residential buildings. The Building Commission is yet to approve the new standards, causing some difficulties particularly for Aged Care facilities with residential sprinkler systems. We are currently assisting various clients who are experiencing difficulties in this area.

Stage 2 water restrictions are now in force & new water saving procedures have been implemented by some local water authorities. Will lower water pressures affect the operation of sprinkler systems? Is too much water currently being wasted testing residential sprinkler systems unnecessarily? These are some of the issues being discussed within the Fire Protection Industry at present.
